Remember to wear something other than flip flops as the adult and adolescent penguins are just walking around their house and they will peck at your feet.
Don't worry it doesn't hurt. These little guys are very curious and will walk right up to you. During the 20 minute event, the 2 aquarium staff members tell you about the penguins and bring a penguin around the room about 3 times for you to gently stroke its' back and flippers. It's hard to take a picture if you are with someone because you are crammed onto these small benches and you have to remain sitting at all times with your feet on the floor.
At the end of the event, the staff members place a short bench in front of your feet and put one of the penguins on the bench so they can take a photo with your camera of you and the penguin! A very cool experience for all ages. If you are into penguins you should definately do it. DoeoEnon Lexington, United States 5 contributions.
Not worth it - don't waste your money or time! We have been to many aquariums, but none so horrible as this one! The ONLY thing that was pretty cool were the tunnels of water to walk under. The problems There was no control, not by parents, teachers or employees of the aquarium, which we never even saw! The tunnels are LOUD and the glass is filthy so everything looks dirty. It was mostly small sharks, sting rays and smaller fish.
Endless small tanks were in the beginning of the place, and you had to wait to get even close enough to see them. The shows were not good, and when we went to sit down to look at the larger tank, kids were running, jumping and screaming in front ON the seats, so you couldn't see anyway.
It was just an overall awful experience!!! VERY disappointed, and what a rip-off because of the high price! We will never go back, which is sad since we are locals. I'd rather travel far to see a decent aquarium. Journey Columbus, Ohio 1 contribution. My family's trip to the aquarium was difficult because we were not permitted to bring our stroller inside for our one-year-old.
The aquarium staff was sympathetic, but unbending about this rule. They only allow strollers after pm. My older children enjoyed the sights, but unfortunately I didn't see much because I had to wrestle with my squirmy baby all afternoon.
First, the small shopping plaza attached to the aquarium is not kid or handicap friendly and is in serious decline. Second, the aquarium is seriously over priced for what it is. Third, on most days they do not allow strollers, no matter the number, age, or ability of children. This is the least kid-friendly family attraction I have ever been to. You think of anything needed and you feel like having it. A huge disappointment in all areas.
We went to the Aquarium over our spring break and arrived early as recommended for the best tickets. Well, that started the problems. Even though we had arrived 30 minutes prior to the opening, we weren't allowed admission until am. There were other shops in the levee are so we thought it might not be a big deal, but they weren't open yet.
It was COLD on the waterfront. But we waited in the 2nd line and went in at our time. We were made to wait again once inside because things were still crowded from the prrevious sessions who are not mandated to leave even though you are mandated to wait. Once finally inside, we were in a sea of strollers among hindreds of children. The displays were in single file aisles and had no overhead recorded description of the display. So you were ayt the mercy of all of those in front of you trying to read the MANY plaques on the wall explaining each area.
By the time we got finished, I swore I would never return even if we were given a private tour of everything. Very overpriced for non-interactive fish tank watching.
Very poorly organized. Some areas were so smelly that it made you want to pass out. No one directed traffic on controlled the crowd once past the front door. It was a free for all. The displays need to be made interractive so that thiongs can move more smoothly.
Kids read slow and get bored with all the latin species names. It was a terrible day that was supposed to be one of the highlights of our vacation. Do not go. We regret you had a disappointing experience and we work hard to make every visit special. Thank you for sharing your concerns with us so that we may improve every aspect of the Aquarium.
