It is a system that determines the progression of the game. When a time limit is present, actions like synthesizing, gathering, traveling and fighting consume time. The player usually has to complete certain objectives before the limit to advance in the story. Not achieving the objectives in time usually leads to a bad ending.
In Atelier Rorona , the player is given assignments every three months to prevent her workshop from being closed. Assignments are always present in the three-year time limit. In Atelier Totori , the player is given a three-year limit to achieve a certain adventurer rank.
By heading east, Totori runs into the Flauschtraut , a giant monsterous fish that was believed to destroy Gisela's ship. Upon seeing the scar on the Flauschtraut's face, Totori believes that Gisela herself inflicted the wound and gains confidence to defeat it. After the Flauschtraut is defeated, Totori heads to Frontier Village, the area that her mother was last heard from. Upon her arrival, the village elder Pilca is shocked that Totori has arrived.
She tells Totori of the events that followed after Gisela visited Frontier Village, and Totori finds a gravestone put up by the villagers for Gisela. She returns to Alanya village to deliver the news to Ceci and Guid. The game ends when Totori goes to get her permanent license in the 7th year. Depending on the player's actions throughout the game, they will receive different endings. The 'True Ending' of the game depicts Totori's mother coming home.
In Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland , Totori explains that her mother came suddenly home one day, so it can be assumed that her mother never actually died. Every time Totori ranks up her license, she will be given a new set of tasks that will enable her to rank up her license further. The player will need to do a variety of adventuring and synthesizing in order to achieve the appropriate rank. If in 3 years time the player has failed to rank up Totori's license, the game will automatically end.
If Totori's license is at a high enough rank, the player will be given an additional 2 years of game play. Atelier Totori features a variety of returning characters from Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland , but also features new characters including the game's main protagonist Totooria Helmold.
The North American version of Atelier Totori was released with the ages of several characters changed, which causes a change in the time between Atelier Rorona and it's sequel Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland , and also changes the age of several characters in between the two versions.
Their decision was eventually called a retcon , and is not considered to be an official change to the series. However, Atelier Meruru maintains the original ages of all characters, new and old, as does Atelier Lulua. For all intents and purposes, both ages will be listed for characters that appear in Atelier Rorona and in Atelier Totori. This is to avoid confusion for those players who are not aware of this issue.
The music was composed by Ken Nakagawa and Kazuki Yanagawa. With each rank more areas open for exploration. Also, there are always two spots in your party you can fill with recruits and change the party dynamic. Atelier Totori's basic structure extends to its turn-based battle system. Party members can actively guard Totori or counterattack - all by timing a button press.
This interactivity precludes an option for auto-battle, but that doesn't mean you won't yearn for it. Half your quests are about killing a certain amount of monsters, so the repetitive, boring battles left us yawning. Here's the saving grace: after the three year mark, many problems start to dissipate.
Travel becomes more convenient, quests get more story-oriented, and more varied dungeons open up. Totori's biggest issue is that it will turn off the players who don't have patience, and it's a shame. JRPG diehards will no doubt tolerate the slow introduction, and it's hard not to admit that there's something addictive about Totori despite its simplicity.
The game is just gorgeous to look at, incredibly vibrant, and always filled with the most intricate details to give each character a unique identity. The only gripe is that while each area is detailed, sometimes they can seem too similar. Oh, they also let you skip the prologue and start right after you get the license. User Info: Nazha. I'd rather use the few months before the game really begins to gather some supplies.
You start off with nothing if you skip straight to Month 6. More topics from this board How do I jmake more money? Side Quest 2 Answers Fertilizer, happy basket, what is it for?
